Ruhrpott cracker in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup: VfL Bochum meets the district neighbors Borussia Dortmund. That was the result of the draw on Sunday (October 23, 2022) in the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The defending champion from Leipzig will play TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at home. Eintracht Frankfurt welcomes second division leaders SV Darmstadt 98, last year’s finalist SC Freiburg has to play second division club SV Sandhausen in Baden and FC Bayern Munich is visiting FSV Mainz 05.
Union Berlin welcomes VfL Wolfsburg
1. FC Union Berlin meets VfL Wolfsburg in the second round of the DFB Cup. “Games under floodlights in the An der Alten Försterei stadium are always something very special. We accept the cup ticket and want to overcome this hurdle in a 50:50 game against VfL Wolfsburg and move into the next round of the cup,” commented Oliver Ruhnert, Managing director professional football of 1. FC Union Berlin, the draw.
Union has their own fans behind them, but Wolfsburg is hoping for the Niko Kovac factor. Wolfsburg’s coach has had an impressive record in the DFB-Pokal in recent years, lifting the title with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018. Will Wolfsburg become a stumbling block for Union? The games of the round of 16 of the DFB Cup will take place on January 31st/January 1st. February and 7./8. February 2023.
Are the cup games shown on TV?
ARD, ZDF and Sky have secured the broadcasting rights for the 2022/2023 DFB Cup. DAZN and Sport1 are allowed to show highlight clips in their programs. The two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF are allowed to broadcast a total of 15 games live. This means that there are two more games to watch on free TV than before – including the two semi-finals and the cup final in Berlin. As in previous years, the pay-TV broadcaster Sky will broadcast all 63 games live and in full, from the first main round to the final, as well as in the original Sky conference.
On the digital platform of the streaming service DAZN, fans will be able to access highlights of the cup games from midnight on the day of the match. Sport1 secured the right to show free-to-air game reports and clips from the day after the game in question.
