Many regrets remain for Italy, one step away from a sensational feat with a team that once again had to deal with injuries, lack of condition and ailments in Malaga. Such a pity…

Auger-Also, number six in the world, once again showed his prodigious talent, dominating the scene from start to finish. To then explode in a truly irrepressible enthusiasm.

His first statements are shaken by a few sobs: “I don’t think I’ve ever felt such an emotion – says the Canadian tennis player – we all here have dreamed of this moment so many times. It really is a dream come true.”

The victory of Canada embodies the success of a country that has grown so much, individually and as a team. Auger-Also underline this point: “Now Canada is also a nation where you can talk about tennis. Maybe bringing some rackets under the Christmas tree for the kids who really want to get into this sport. Thanks to this Davis Cup we have all grown individually and as a team. But beating Italy was very hard. Honor to the Azzurri who really put us to the test in the semifinals”.

For the Canada it’s the first one Davis Cup absolutely. The 16th country to inscribe its name on the silver salad bowl following Russia’s victory last year.
