Cuban basketball players prepare for the Centrobasket tournament (+Video)

Havana, November 17 (ACN) Cuban women’s basketball team is prepared in this capital with a view to the Centrobasket tournament with headquarters in Chihuahua, Mexico, from the 23rd to the 28th of next.

Margaro Pedroso, technical director (DT) of the team, declared to the press that in that match Cuba will share group B with the locals and El Salvador; while in A there will be the casts of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

He added that according to the competition system, the first two of each key will advance to the semifinals, who would face each other at the crossroads in search of access to the title discussion.

He also pointed out that the most important thing is qualifying for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, an objective achieved just by attending because that event grants seven tickets, the coach said.

He expressed that another goal will be to be among the first four teams to ensure the place in the Americas Cup.

Regarding the preparation of the Cuban team, he explained that the lack of caps has been the main problem, but they have looked for alternatives such as playing against the youth men from Havana, which has given them very good results, he said.

In another moment of the dialogue, Pedroso regretted the absence of captain Anisleidy Galindo due to personal problems, but that will not be an impediment to fight for a place on the awards podium, he added.

The DT of Cuba also confirmed the presence of the players hired in foreign leagues, such as Dairis Tornel, Naomi Vargas and Isabela Jordain.

The representatives of the island, on July 17, won the title in the Caribbean tournament that hosted the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum, in this capital, by winning the final with a score of 79-60 against their counterpart from the Dominican Republic.

In that contest, both finalist teams qualified for Centrobasket, which in a few days will have Chihuahua as its stage.
