Canjáyar lives a great Oil Day

The municipality of Canjáyar enjoyed a great Sunday morning within the framework of the ninth edition of its already classic Día del Aceite, which in turn is part of the Business Showcase of the Alpujarra municipality, which in 2022 has already reached its twelfth date.

It was a very lively day, with numerous incentives for both adults and children, and in which the olive bone throwing contest stood out for its originality, which this year has been held for the sixth time and that every year It has more people who are encouraged to participate, both men and women.



The mayor of Canjáyar, Juan Jose Romerawas able to be satisfied with the development of the day in his town, to which contributed a splendid weather in the municipality of Alpujarra, which allowed many, both visitors and canjilones residents, to stop by the Constitution Plaza to tour the numerous stalls set up, both for olive oil and other agri-food products, or take part in the entertainment activities that made up the program organized by the City Council.

Sausages, honey, wine, cheese… and of course oil, represented by various oil mills among which were the two that operate in Canjáyar, were some of the products that could be tasted and bought on the tour, belonging to the XII Canjáyar Business Show, an event that allows consumers and merchants to come together in a space that was very lively throughout the day. The Provincial Council supports this initiative with economic assistance and was represented by Deputy Francisco Álvarez.

Las children’s activities they were also present. The children were able to practice archery or jump on inflatables, among other games, and also the enclosure installed in the Plaza de la Constitución had the special animation of a brass band.

Also had a leading role community of people of Ukrainian nationality who has lived in Canjáyar since the invasion of their country by Russia began, around thirty, who participated with decorated flower pots that they put up for sale and which allowed them to feel fully active part of the festival and of the town.

And the highlight, at least from the point of view of originality, was the celebration of the olive pit throwing contest, which had a high participation, including women and some minors, who also wanted to be encouraged to see how far he would throw the ‘projectile’ with his mouth. Three prizes in kind were distributed to the first three classified, which consisted of olive oil and olives. The winner took home 15 liters, 10 for the second and 5 for the third, as well as cans of table olives. A beautiful day of coexistence for canjilones and visitors around good products, and close proximity.
