Billie Jean King Cup: Switzerland leads 1-0 against Italy – rts.ch

Jil Teichmann (WTA 35) offered a first point to Switzerland against Italy in the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. The Seelandaise beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto (WTA 65) 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7/5), after dismissing a match point.

Lacking confidence and convincing results since his round of 16 at Roland-Garros, Jil Teichmann seemed on the verge of breaking at 2-0 in favor of the Italian in the decisive round. She had just lost six games in a row by chaining unforced errors, after having led 6-3 4-2.

But Jil Teichmann didn’t give up. The Barcelona native even came out of nowhere, erasing a match point at 2-5 by slamming an ace. Suddenly more solid in the exchange, she turned the tide by pocketing five of the last six games in a game with an improbable scenario which lasted 3h07′.

Bencic for the 2nd point

Belinda Bencic (WTA 12) will therefore have the opportunity to give victory to Switzerland in the second single, which pits her against Jasmine Paolini (WTA 59). Italian captain, Tathiana Garbin has indeed given up aligning her two highest ranked players, Martina Trevisan (WTA 28) and Lucia Bronzetti (WTA 56), who should compete for the double.
