Better than Lewandowski? Nagelsmann particularly likes that about Choupo-Moting

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is currently unstoppable. The 33-year-old is currently not only one of the best Bayern players in form, but probably also one of the best strikers in Europe. From Julian Nagelsmann’s point of view, the Cameroonian is even better than two-time FIFA World Player Robert Lewandowski in some respects.

Choupo-Moting continued to build on his incredible run this past weekend. In the 3-2 win against Hertha, the attacker scored twice and was (once again) instrumental in Bayern’s victory. The forward has scored nine goals in the last seven games.

The Cameroon international has long since proven that he is not a flash in the pan and that his qualities and skills are a real asset to Bayern Munich’s attacking game.

“We are very happy to have Choupo”

While many fans, media and experts are surprised by the 33-year-old’s performance explosion, Julian Nagelsmann is not really surprised: “He’s always had these qualities, but in recent months he’s had injuries, Covid, the Africa Cup and he lacked the rhythm. When he’s fit we know what his qualities are, so I’m not surprised. For me, these performances are a logical consequence of him being fit.”

The Bayern coach even goes so far and sees Choupo-Moting ahead of ex-FCB striker Robert Lewandowski in some respects: “Lewy was an outstanding player with a lot of goals. Choupo can perhaps be played a little more often. Both have their merits. We are very happy to have Choupo.”

One thing is clear: In its current form, Choupo-Moting does not have to hide behind the Polish top scorer.
