Benjamin Mendy denies rape allegations: “Sleeping with different women was normal for me” | Football

FootballBenjamin Mendy, 28, has denied ever committing rape during his testimony before an English court, although he is suspected of multiple charges. “I’ve had sex with a lot of women,” said the Manchester City defender. “But I always stopped immediately when a woman said ‘no’.”

Mendy was charged with rape and sexual assault against six women. The French international, world champion with France in 2018, pleaded not guilty.

The women accuse him of locking them in a room in his house and then forcing them to have sex. “The women always came to me,” Mendy said of his alleged victims. “Not because I look so beautiful, but because I’m a footballer. Apparently that entails a certain status.”

Mendy also testified in particular how, during a period with a long-term injury, he often went to party to relieve his worries. “I was always direct about what I wanted. At the time, I didn’t think about whether the women might be upset. If they wanted sex and I wanted sex, that was fine. Going to bed with different women in one night was normal for me.”

Mendy admitted he wasn’t too concerned about the women’s moods. “I never thought about how they felt or if they might be upset. It was during my time in prison that I really started to see this.”

Mendy was suspended by his Manchester City after being arrested by police in August last year. The process will continue in the coming days.
