Bellerín and Marcos Alonso, opposite paths

The sports area will take advantage of the World Cup break to make a series of decisions for the future of the club. Among them, the fate of Héctor Bellerín and Marcos Alonso, two players who practically reached the edge of the bell and signed only one year.

Right now, and if there is no last-minute surprise, the club has already decided that it will not renew Bellerín. Its performance has been far below expectations. So much so that Barcelona is going to have to make an effort this winter to incorporate a right-back with greater projection and guarantees. In any case, the incorporation of him is not considered an error, taking into account that it was a ‘low cost’ option as the first options such as César Azplicueta, Juan Foyth and Thomas Meunier fell from the list. In addition to coming with the letter of freedom under the arm of Arsenal, the player accepted a chip of 400,000 euros, being one of the lowest in the entire squad.

Totally different case is that of Marcos Alonso. The former Chelsea player has entered the club on the right foot -you only have to look at the physical display he displayed in his debut as a starter against Bayern in Munich-, also having to vent in a position that is not natural for him, such as the Left central, developing with solvency. His versatility and performance have helped him get the green light from the club’s sports area, which plans to offer a two-year renewal in the coming weeks with an improvement in its current conditions.

Bellerín, on the contrary, has not been able to take ownership in the right lane or with Sergi Roberto’s injury, having to play Alejandro Balde on the changed wing before him. In fact, the former Arsenal player is the second player with the fewest minutes in the squad, ahead only of Memphis. Bellerín accumulates 321 minutes, while Marcos Alonso already has 853, almost triple in these first four months of competition.
