This weekend Barbastro is hosting the third Spanish Cup A of Children’s and Cadet Judo of Aragon, a national competition that will bring together more than 700 athletes from fourteen autonomous communities from Friday to Sunday, as well as several technical teams and the Andorra judo team, as well as another 300 people accredited between referees and the organization, who will be joined by relatives and friends of the young judokas from all over Spain.

José Ángel Hierro Jarné, president of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Associated Sports, has highlighted the importance of the competition that is going to be held this weekend in Barbastro. “This Children’s and Cadet Spanish Cup is a national competition that constitutes in itself a National League between the different Judo Spanish Cups, which have as other venues the cities of Avilés, Alicante, Montijo, Tortosa, Santiago de Compostela , Tenerife, Suances, Valladolid, Pamplona or Vigo”.

The head of the Aragonese has explained that, despite the fact that participation is closed to date with 720 athletes, “the ranked can still register, that is, those people who are at the highest national level and who, given the volume of registration that there is and that they can see their position in the ranking in danger, despite the registration being closed, they still have the possibility of doing so ”. Hierro has highlighted that, although there are 720 judokas, “we have more than a thousand accredited, with an average occupation of 2.5 people per accredited. Therefore -he assured- we are going to have around 2,500 people in the city of Barbastro during the weekend”. Participants must, at least, spend one night in the host city of the Cup, given that “the competition system requires accreditations and weigh-ins to be carried out the day before. Therefore, by attending the children’s or cadet competition, the participants, the officials and the technicians have to spend at least one overnight in the city of Barbastro, with the direct economic repercussion that the event entails”, explained José Ángel Hierro .

Cristina Berrocal, executive director and vice president of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Associated Sports, will be in charge of the competition and has been in charge of offering the details of participation to this day in a championship in which almost all the communities will be represented. regions, including the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, “in addition to the modernization teams of the CARs of Madrid, Murcia, Cantabra and Navarra and the Andorra judo team in the Cadet Cup”.

In the Children’s Spanish Cup, participation is slightly lower “since in the children’s category there are only two years”, 290 athletes will compete, 185 in the male category and 105 in the female category.

Fourteen judokas from Barbastre, all of them from the Barbastro Judo Club, will debut in national competition this weekend in this Spanish Cup. This was confirmed this afternoon by Antonio Clager, who has advanced that “three judokas will participate in the cadet category and eleven in the children’s category, for what will be their first national competition.”

The Aragonese representation in this Spanish Cup is very numerous. Cristina Berrocal, director of the competition, has confirmed the participation of “88 athletes in the children’s category and 74 in the cadet category.”

With this Cup, one of the objectives of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Associated Sports is to try to establish a Circuit of Cups of Spain within Aragon, “thus offering the possibility to all Aragonese judokas of all categories to be able to participate in the national circuit of Spanish Cups from home”.
