It has already been reported that Balcer was placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers on Friday in order to add Aaron Ekblad, who was previously on the injured list, to the lineup. Within 24 hours, another NHL team could take over Balcer’s contract, and the Lightning did.

In the beginning of the season, the Latvian hockey player played in 14 matches for the “Panthers”, in which he scored two goals and made two assists, as well as accumulated a negative efficiency coefficient of -2.

Balcer had the most productive season in his NHL career. He scored 11 goals and 12 assists in 61 games for the San Jose Sharks. In total, he played 167 matches in the world’s strongest hockey league, during which he scored 61 points (27+34). He has also played for the Ottawa Senators.

“Lightning” has been among the leading NHL teams in recent years, and it has won the Stanley Cup three times – in 2004, 2020 and 2021. Last season, the Tampa team played in the Stanley Cup finals.
