ATP Finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas wins against Daniil Medvedev and bowls Russians out of the tournament

In the decisive tie-break of the third set, Tsitsipas dominated, made it 6-0 and gained six more match points early on. After 2:24 hours, the Greek converted his fifth match point to victory.

For Tsitsipas it was the fourth win in the eleventh duel with Medvedev. For the first time, the Greek, who last triumphed in the semifinals of the Masters in Cincinnati in August, won two matches in a row against the Russian.

“It was a rollercoaster ride. A lot of things happened, I played well, he raised his level,” Tsitsipas analyzed in an on-court interview after the match and was happy about his dominant performance in the decisive tie-break: “It was fantastic to see that I could play that level and sustain it through the full tie-break.”

In the final direct duel in the red group against Andrey Rublev, Tsitsipas has the opportunity to qualify for the semifinals with a win and thus follow Novak Djokovic and Casper Ruud into the round of four.

Medvedev without a chance to reach the semifinals

The 21-time Grand Slam champion from Belgrade has already secured the ticket for the semi-finals after beating Rublev 6: 4, 6: 1 in the afternoon. Djokovic defeated Tsitsipas on the first day of the game and meets Medvedev in the final preliminary round match.

The Russian, who won the 2020 finals, on the other hand, has no chance of reaching the semi-finals due to the second defeat in Turin.
