Anderlecht have successfully completed an impressive penalty shoot-out. Lierse Kempenzonen kept up to 8-8, but then missed twice in a row. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen kicked his team to the next round in the Cup.

Anderlecht flattered to take the lead at half time
Anderlecht and Lierse K. closed a well-filled three-day in the cup tonight. The visitors started well on the Lisp. There was a lot of pressure and Lierse had a lot of trouble playing football.
That didn’t lead to great opportunities, but after just over 20 minutes the ball went on the spot for RSCA. Amuzu passed Raemaekers at speed, after which he stopped the winger incorrectly, according to the referee. A debatable stage.
Fabio Silva went behind the ball and painted the leather in the top corner cleverly. Anderlecht didn’t have much time to enjoy that lead, because just two minutes later goalkeeper Verbruggen had to turn around. Tabekou was all alone in the box and could simply head in a cross. To redo everything.
After that, Anderlecht also struggled to create opportunities, but just before the break they took the lead again. After a messy phase, Stroeykens got the ball in the box via Silva. The youngster took the ball and was able to beat goalkeeper De Smet with a good shot.

After the break we saw little danger in goal. Anderlecht had possession of the ball, but could not do much with it and so the lead remained only one goal.
Ten minutes before the end, the visitors were given the lid on the nose. A simple through pass is good for Vekemans and he was able to put the ball in goal next to Verbruggen. So no winner after 90 minutes and overtime.
Anderlecht also found it difficult to play good football in extra time. The biggest chances to decide the game were for the home team, but the ball didn’t go in. Penalty kicks were supposed to pick a winner.

Bloodcurdling penalty shootout
The balls didn’t go in after regular time, but that problem was a thing of the past with the penalty kicks.
No fewer than 16 consecutive penalties were neatly converted. 8 against 8! When De Schryver missed the 9th penalty for Lierse, Lissens, who had just come in, was able to finish it for Anderlecht, but he was also unable to finish.
The decision only came after Libert was unable to convert the next Lier penalty kick either. Goalkeeper Verbruggen was able to convert his penalty kick. 8-9 for Anderlecht. The team continues to cup and can therefore still dream of the cup. KRC Genk awaits in the next round.
