Ajax will face Union Berlin in the intermediate round of the Europa League. The team from Amsterdam will have to beat the current number three in the Bundesliga to reach the eighth finals of the Europa League.
Prior to the draw, there may have been fears of drawing Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United or Jose Mourino’s AS Roma, but those teams have been avoided for the time being. During the draw, Ajax was linked to Union Berlin, the current club of former Ajax player Sheraldo Becker.
The first leg between Ajax and Union Berlin will be played on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 6.45 pm and will take place in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. A week later, Ajax will visit Berlin for the return. On that day, the kick-off will take place at 9 p.m.
