ADO Den Haag is sticking to trainer Dirk Kuijt for the time being, says general manager Edwin Reijntjes. Kuijt’s position is under a magnifying glass because of the poor results of the current number sixteen of the Kitchen Champion Division.
ADO has won only five times in fifteen competition matches. Kuijt’s team took two points in the last four games. ADO has one point more than number nineteen Helmond Sport. The club from The Hague expressed the ambition to promote before the season.
Despite the disappointing results, Reijntjes retains confidence in Kuijt. “We stick to our policy,” says the director at Broadcasting West. “A professional like Kuijt fits in with our vision. It seems clear to us that something needs to be done in the staff. We just don’t go for a panic solution.”
Reijntjes refers to registering a new assistant. The player group would like Jong ADO coach Giovanni Franken to join the technical staff. “Franken must above all continue with his good work at Jong ADO and obtaining his trainer’s diplomas,” says Reijntjes. “So no emergency solutions there.”
Reijntjes: ‘Occasionally some friction is part of it’
The director acknowledges that Kuijt’s arrival has brought about many changes at ADO. “Of course it took some getting used to the new structures and professionalization that were implemented at the start of the season with the arrival of Kuijt. That sometimes creates some friction, but that’s part of it.”
ADO recently announced that Daryl Janmaat will leave as technical manager after five months. The former international would not feel heard and would not agree with the choices made within the club from the royal city.
In addition to Kuijt, ADO’s supporters are also critical of Reijntjes’ functioning. “I don’t think the team will play better if there is a new director,” the director responds.
“The ball is in the court of the staff and the players. You tell each other the truth and make agreements that must be complied with. If not, there will be consequences. If there are forces that do not want to participate, then you have to do something with it.”
