A bad buy of 4 million: Owen Otasowie has been missing for a while, Club Brugge removes midfielder from the payroll

The story of Owen Otasowie (21) at Club Brugge has really come to an end. The American midfielder has been missing for a while and so the club is no longer paying him. He is still under contract, so a solution is being sought.

Owen Otasowie (21) came to Club Brugge in the summer of 2021, with Premier League nobility, where he played at Wolverhampton. But under Philippe Clement, the American never played and in his first season he didn’t play a minute. What’s more: he once had to recharge his batteries in England for a week and after the winter break he was even without a trace for a long time. A solution was sought but not found and so the midfielder rejoined under new coach Carl Hoefkens. He got his chances, once in the Supercup and in the competition, but he didn’t grab them and again got out of the picture. He had to gain experience at NXT again, but in the meantime he has been absent for several weeks.

Enough for Club to step in and take him off the payroll. Now it is important to find a solution in the form of a transfer or termination of the contract. Fortunately for Club, Raphael Onyedika (21) is now a direct hit in position ‘six’. Because there is also a lot of hassle around Eder Balanta (29) since he was not allowed to replace the suspended Onyedika against Leverkusen – he has now been missing from the selection three times. And the promising Noah Mbamba (17), who will only be back against Patro Eisden for the first time in months, is not yet planning to extend his expiring contract. Club remains hopeful that the talks will yield something.
