2,000 young people celebrate the XXVI Minibasket Day at the Príncipe Felipe

Accustomed to hearing the shouts and tension of professional basketball every weekend, the Príncipe Felipe pavilion lives a festive day this Saturday, full of smiles and happiness, with protagonists who dream of one day reaching the elite of the sport of the basket. There, from 9.00 in the morning, they congregate 2,000 boys and girls from 150 teams that fill the Zaragoza facility with enthusiasm with the XXVI edition of Minibasket Day.

For the appointment, which congregates junior category players (male, female and mixed), have been enabled five tracks of reduced dimensions. The matches will be of a participatory nature and all young people will receive different gifts from the organization. The Aragonese Basketball Federation and Zaragoza Municipal Sports, sponsored by Ibercaja, are the promoters of the XXVI Day of the Ibercaja Minibasket ‘IX Memorial José Antonio García Charles’, one of the most significant events in youth basketball, which returns this Saturday after two years suspended as a result of the pandemic.

From early in the morning, Thousands of relatives of the young athletes follow the evolution of the little ones from the stands of Prince Felipe. The matches that are played throughout the day are of 2 periods of 15 minutes each, stopping time only in time-outs and in the last minute of each period. In addition, the referees only touch the ball in the initial jump, in free throws, timeouts and special circumstances that could require the intervention of the match.

Furthermore, given the large number of participants, all teams have a maximum of five minutes to warm up on the court, being able to start preparing the game in the corridors of the facility. If the match ends in a tie, an extra period of 1 minute will be played.
