Yordan Álvarez to the Hall of Fame?

Next to a World Series title, the highest aspiration of any major league player is to place his plaque in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Despite his short career in MLB, the Cuban Yordan Álvarez has begun to show flashes of quality, but will he be enough to reach Cooperstown?

Yordan Álvarez’s 2022 season has been the best of his four-year career in the Major Leagues. With his offensive performance, “Air Yordan” stands as the central axis of the Houston Astros’ lineup in this World Series.

Anthony Castrovince, chronicler at MLB.com recently published his vision of who could reach the temple of the immortals in the future. Under the title How many future Hall members will we see in this SM?, from consecrated as Justin Verlander, to superstars like Bryce Harper and José Altuve, Castrovince considers the Cuban slugger with wood to place his name among the greats.

About Yordan Álvarez, he considers that, although it is too early to submit his name to debate, “after four years of career (with one of them basically lost due to injury) the 25-year-old Cuban has an OPS+ of 163 in 1,537 times at bat. Only 16 players in the modern era with at least 1,500 at-bats before their 26th birthday have had a higher OPS+.”

“With that in mind, Alvarez has had a better offensive start to his career than the likes of Joe DiMaggio (156 OPS+ through age 25), Eddie Matthews (154), Willie Mays (152) and Hank Aaron (151). And although he is still too early –iniste- Álvarez allows us to dream a little”.

When the sports media, ESPNpublished his list with the 100 best players who have passed through the Major League Baseball (MLB), in it included exponents of the game with a significant contribution to this sport. However, over the years, others could also join the historical Top 100 of the Majors, such is the case of Yordan Álvarez.

Yordan Álvarez’s offensive performance led him to hit 27 home runs in his debut year; 98 hits and drive in 78 runs. He then suffered an injury that prevented him from returning for the next calendar, but in 2021 he returned with the same force that meant his consecration season in the MLB. For the first time he surpassed the mark of 30 home runs (33) and 100 RBIs (104).
