While the French men’s team has gone through the world championships, the president of the French Judo Federation calls for remobilization before the Paris Olympics.
In France, few sports see women have a better international level than men, but judo is more than ever part of it. In the absence of superstars Teddy Riner and Clarisse Agbegnenou, France returned from the world championships in Tashkent with five medals: gold for Romane Dicko (+78kg), silver for mixed teams, and bronze for Amandine Buchard. (-52kg), Manon Deketer (-63kg) and Julia Tolofua (+78kg). The men left Uzbekistan without a medal and even no quarter-finals, and the president of the French Federation Stéphane Nomis did not mince his words when taking stock: “We cannot finish 24th nation in the men even without a Teddy. We are a big nation, it’s a tragedy. We will have to transform French judo. We’ve had the same way of working for twenty years. Until then I let the team manage, we realize that it does not work. We have to reshuffle the cards, ”he confides in the columns of The team.
Nomis: “We have to send them to coal all over the world”
The DTN Sébastien Mansois is less severe, attesting that the men’s team has been greatly rejuvenated: “It would be more destructive to revolutionize everything. Obviously, we cannot be satisfied with the men’s results because we come to win medals but we know where we are starting from, the staff has made a strong choice to rejuvenate. President Nomis, elected two years ago, already has some solutions in mind for the Paris Olympics, which will be held in less than two years. “We need to personalize training more so that the athletes have more impact, and work more with the clubs. We must send them to the coal all over the world so that they train more and better. ” The countdown begins. Remember that in Tokyo, men’s judo had won two of the seven French individual medals, thanks to Luka Mkheidze (bronze in -60kg) and Teddy Riner (bronze in +100kg)but they were injured for these 2022 Worlds.
