Willem II booked a narrow victory in the Kitchen Champion Division on Monday. After a remarkably early change from striker Jizz Hornkamp, the Tilburgers won 1-2 when visiting Jong Ajax.
Hornkamp was substituted by coach Kevin Hofland after 27 minutes at De Toekomst. When the Willem II attacker saw the sign with his number go up, he walked in a straight line to the dressing room and slammed a door behind him.
At the time of Hornkamp’s substitution, Willem II was 1-0 behind due to a goal by Sontje Hansen. The attacker shot the ball in the 21st minute behind Willem II goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou, who was under contract with Ajax between 2017 and 2019.
After the break, Hofland was right with Hornkamp’s substitution. His replacement Jeremy Bokila signed for the equalizer with a nice slider. Fifteen minutes before the end, Lucas Woudenberg scored the winning goal for the club from Tilburg.
With the 1-2 victory, Willem II makes a jump in the rankings. Hofland’s team passes Almere City, Jong AZ and Roda JC and is fifth in the Kitchen Champion Division. Young Ajax is the number thirteen in the ranking after thirteen matches.
