The most anticipated series of the Major League Baseball season (MLB) is about to start. The Fall Classic will reunite the Houston Astrosas the best team in the American League, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies, who were crowned in the National. Despite the elimination of Julio Urías, Mexico will have representation through the Texan pitcher, Jose Urquidywho is heading to the dispute of his third World Series in the Major Leagues.

Contrary to the path traveled by other Aztec players in the United States, Urquidy had the opportunity to make his professional debut in the discipline in the country of stars and stripes. This trajectory has allowed him to mature sportingly in the best baseball league in the world and set a series of records that have spliced with Fernando Valenzuelabut before that he had to break through in the lower divisions.

Born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on May 1, 1995, José Urquidy ventured into the professional stage of the discipline with minor teams of the Houston Astros. It was thus that at age 20 he began pitching for the Greeneville Astros and the Tri-City ValleyCats, where he provided arguments to continue climbing the rungs in various categories until reaching the majors.

In 2016 he was assigned to the Quad Cities River Bandits as well as the Lancaster JetHawks. Within the organizations he continued to give good performances for two seasons, but in 2018 he returned to wearing the jersey of Tri-City and the Buies Creek Astros. His last team before being activated by the Houston Astros team was the Corpus Christi Hooks.

With a long process, and after having shown maturity, Urquidy was called to join the ranks of the Major League team. The July 2, 2019 made his debut as a starter in the big tent against the Colorado Rockies. His involvement lasted 3 2/3 innings, but he stuck around throughout the season making sporadic appearances in the pitching rotation.

That same year the Astros reached the World Series and the manager used José Urquidy to be starter in game four. His appearance lasted five innings, but he was able to carry the victory and place on par with the Tour Valenzuela as the second Mexican-born rookie pitcher to claim a win during the World Series.

Although the Washington Nationals prevailed in the seven-game series, the Mexican managed to inaugurate a magnificent stat in the Fall Classic. And it is that with the arrival of the ninth Texan to the game for the title of the year 2021 he again looked like the winning pitcher in a game of the series.

In the case of the 2022 campaign, with the Astros ranking fourth in the last six years, if Urquidy is chosen by his manager as the series starter, he will become the first Mexican player to play three editions of the World Series. In this way, he will seek to win again to add the same number of victories, although also with the intention of winning his first trophy as an MLB player.

Throughout the most recent season he was required 29 times. Of the total, he was able to keep 13 wins although charged with eight losses. His ERA was 3.94 and while he didn’t rank in the top 10 shooters of the season, he could be his team’s secret weapon by calling on the quality he’s shown in crucial games.
