Victory against China: Germany wins bronze at Judo World Championships

The German judo athletes won bronze at the World Championships in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

On Thursday (October 13th, 2022) the team of Anna-Maria Wagner, Eduard Trippel, Pauline Starke and Igor Wandtke won 4-1 against the Chinese selection in the consolation round. In the semifinals, the German judokas lost 4-0 to Japan.

Before that, the Germans had to deal with Mongolia at the start and met strong opponents who took a 2-0 lead. Among others, the strong Eduard Trippel ensured the 4:2 win against Mongolia with his partial victory. In the next meeting, the German selection defeated Ukraine 4-0 before Japan awaited in the semifinals.

Second medal for German team

Israel won the other bronze as there were two final bouts in the consolation round and therefore two bronze winners. Germany already won bronze in this competition at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The team’s victory is now the second award, since Katharina Menz already achieved silver in Tashkent.

European champion Alina Böhm won the German judo summit against world champion Anna-Lena Wagner at the World Championships in Tashkent, but missed the second medal for the German team.
