Rafael van der Vaart has thrown a bomb in the discussion about the goalkeeper issue in the Dutch national team. “Very honest”, he started in Studio Football. “I know him a little and I think he’s a bit of a bad guy.”

With this, Van der Vaart, who still played with Cillessen in Orange, refers to the two interviews that the NEC goalkeeper gave to the NOS on Friday and Sunday. “I’m the only one who still has tournament experience, I’ll take that with me,” Cillessen said on Friday.

“He does that very cleverly,” says Van der Vaart. “A bit indirectly, he tries to earn his place in the Dutch national team.”

Pierre van Hooijdonk sees it differently: “Cillessen feels that the gun factor lies entirely with Remko Pasveer. More importantly, Pasveer is the keeper of Ajax. I understand Cillessen very well. He feels that it is not entirely fair. Being Ajax and being rewarded and now being a keeper of NEC.”

Discussion

In addition, Cillessen was the subject of discussion in the duel with Feyenoord on Sunday when he shot on the back of Santiago Giménez during a kick. The Feyenoord striker scored, but that goal was rejected by referee Serder Gözübüyük because the Mexican would have hindered Cillessen.

According to Van der Vaart, Cillessen made another mistake in justifying his action. “There’s nothing wrong, is there?” Van der Vaart wonders. “He has to get yellow himself. He has something bad about him.”

Whether there is still an old problem with Van der Vaart towards Cillessen: “No, I just have the feeling that everyone thinks Cillessen should keep goal.”

According to Van Hooijdonk it is the other way around and there is an Ajax-affiliated lobby for Pasveer: “I don’t have to participate in that polonaise, do I?”
