U-17 Asian Cup Qualifying Standings: Indonesia Overtakes Malaysia

Indonesian National Team U-17 managed to beat Palestine 2-0 in the U-17 Asian Cup Qualification 2023, Friday (7/10). This victory made Indonesia evict Malaysia from the top of Group B standings.

Garuda Asia took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to an own goal from Palestinian defender Ibrahim Alfuqaha. Instead of sweeping the ball from Habil Abdilah’s cross in the penalty box, the ball went into his own goal.

In the second half, Indonesia managed to widen their advantage in the 50th minute through a long-range shot from Habi Abdilah.

Habil fired a side kick that looked like it was for a pass. But his shot just flowed more heavily and headed into the top corner of the Palestinian goal to enter.

The victory over Palestine brought Indonesia back to the top of the Group B standings with a collection of nine points. While the second position is occupied by Malaysia which packs seven points.

Malaysia opened the opportunity to win the group position after successfully defeating the United Arab Emirates 2-1. The UAE is confirmed to be eliminated through the acquisition of six points.

Then, Guam and Palestine have also been confirmed to be eliminated after suffering three consecutive defeats. The two are in fourth and fifth respectively.

Indonesia will face the group winner against Malaysia in the final match of Group B at the Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor, Sunday (9/10).

Garuda Asia only needs a draw to lock their automatic ticket to qualify for the U-17 Asian Cup finals next year.
