The rebirth of women’s basketball in the city of Arezzo is a reality. The merit goes to the Arezzo Basketball School which has started the new season with the important news of the constitution of three youth teams that will involve forty-five basketball players of different ages and who will play in provincial and regional championships. This result is the result of a path set by the Arezzo company starting from 2019 with the coordination of Roberta Bindi and which, despite the limitations of the health emergency, has seen the women’s movement constantly grow in terms of participation and enthusiasm: at the moment, the there are one hundred and seventy athletes in the Nova Verta minibasket sector and, of these, thirty are girls.
Last season was decisive with the possibility to carry out activities continuously, to take the field in the first concentrations and to conduct targeted work in schools that allowed to double the numbers and lay the foundations for the establishment of three formations. The biggest will play in the Under15 championship and, coached by Eric Maccanti, will put themselves to the test in a challenging event against opponents from the provinces of Arezzo, Siena and Florence, with the historic debut scheduled at 16.00 on Sunday 23 October with the peers of the Cmb Valdarno at the Estra “Mario d’Agata” sports hall. The other two teams bring together athletes born from 2014 to 2016 and from 2011 to 2013 respectively and will be involved in the regional Esordienti championship and in the provincial mini-basketball tournaments. The activity conducted by the Sba with the women’s movement is oriented to physical, technical, cognitive and relational growth, with a progressive path that starts from motor education through the fundamentals of basketball (dribbling, shooting, passing and defense) and arrives at a progressive technical refinement to be able to compare with girls and girls from other societies.
A date marked on the calendar is Sunday 16 October when, from 6.30 pm, the official presentation of all the athletes of the company is scheduled for the meeting of the Serie C Gold championship between the first men’s team and Vismederi Costone Siena. During the interval of the match, the three teams will be called to the center of the Estra “Mario d’Agata” sports hall and, in front of the public, the individual basketball players will be valued and the projects of the Sba women’s movement will be told. “The constitution of the first three formations – comments Bindi, – it is a source of great satisfaction that certifies the goodness of the company’s work and planning, bringing incentives and motivations to follow up on this growth. The Sba, in fact, is the only female basketball reality in the city and, consequently, we have a pool of girls and girls available that allows us to aspire to further development: the quality, determination and passion of our forty-five athletes. they are an important foundation on which to consolidate and build the future».
