The president of the Saudi Golf Federation plans to create his own Major tournaments

Majed Al Sorour, the president of the Saudi Golf Federation, a very close friend of Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Director of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia which supports LIV Golf with millions of dollars, plans to create its own Major tournaments if Breakout League players are banned from taking part in the four Grand Slam events: Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and British Open.

In an interview given to New Yorker, Majed Al Sorourthe president of the Saudi Golf Federation, dropped a bombshell. With the support of his friend Yasir Al-RumayyanDirector of Public investment fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia but also president ofAramcothe very powerful Saudi oil company, he is seriously considering creating four “Major” if the players of the LIFE Golf were banned from the four institutions that currently run Grand Slam tournaments: Augusta National Golf Club (Masters), PGA of America (PGA Championship), United States Golf Association (US Open) et Royal & Ancient (British Open).

« If the Majors decide not to play our players, I will create some for themhe pointed out in this interview. For now, the Majors side with the Tour (the PGA Tour), and I do not know why. (…) Honestly, I think these tournaments are run by people who don’t understand business. »

Launched at the beginning of June, the LIV Golf, supported with millions of dollars by the PIF and directed by the former world n°1, the Australian Greg Normanwill end its season in a few days (October 28-30) in Miami (Florida) on the Trump National Doral. A final whose endowment rose to … 50 million dollars. In a little over five months of competition, between the prize money for each event and the pharaonic commitment bonuses for certain players, the LIV has already spent the modest sum of… 2 billion dollars.
