The Brazilian Silva and the Mongolian send-Ochir break the Japanese dominance in the Judo World Cup

The Brazilian Rafaela Silva and the Mongolian Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir won the titles of -57 kilos and -73 kilos in the Judo World Cup, this Saturday in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), thus breaking Japan’s dominance in the competition.

Silva, nine years after her first world title, won the waza-ari final against 23-year-old Haruka Funakubo of Japan with an attack thirty seconds from the end of regulation time.

The 30-year-old Brazilian returned to competition late last year after a two-year doping ban, meaning she was unable to defend her Olympic title in Tokyo in 2021.

The other title attributed on Saturday went to the Mongolian Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir, winner in the final of the Japanese Soichi Hachimoto, world champion in 2017.

The bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games won by waza-ari in extension.

In this test, Brazil won its second medal of the day, thanks to Daniel Cargnin.

Japan had won the first four titles in the competition.
