The players returned to the locker room earlier than expected. And they didn’t come back. The shock between Standard de Liège and Anderlecht was definitively stopped in the 63rd minute, this Sunday, during the 14th day of the Belgian championship. Bram van Driessche, the referee of the meeting, took this decision because of incidents caused by the Brussels supporters, massed in the parking lot visitors. The latter threw many smoke bombs and firecrackers on the lawn of the Sclessin stadium. Overflows which also pushed the referee to interrupt the game for the first time for almost a quarter of an hour.

The score was then 3-1 for Standard, who made the difference thanks to Nicolas Raskin, Marlon Joseph Fossey and Philip Zinckernagel. Finally, the Liège club will win 5-0 after the definitive stoppage of this classic of Belgian football. Enough to leave Anderlecht, which is making its worst start to the season since 1930, in 12th place in the standings, 9 points behind Liège, 5th.

“She said yes”, launched the announcer of the stadium

This chaotic epilogue ended with a much happier scene. After the match, Aron Dönnum, the Standard striker, brought his partner into the field. The 24-year-old Norwegian then knelt down in front of her to ask her to marry, to the loud applause of his partners and part of the public, who remained in the stands. “She said yes”, then launched the announcer. Just to end the evening on a better note.
