The Sheikh’s defense does not appear either, while the Prosecutor’s Office also assures that Abdullah Al-Thani could be in the United Kingdom treating pancreatitis
All the forecasts were fulfilled from the first hour of this Monday and the Al-Thani did not attend the summons they had in the Court of Instruction number 14 of the City of Justice of Malaga. It was unlikely that they would show up, which has caused the judge to agree to start the process for the international arrest warrant for the sheikh and his three investigated children, according to what the lawyer for the Small Shareholders assured when leaving the courts. The Prosecutor’s Office also requested that this procedure be launched to arrest the Al-Thani. “We will be transferred to the parties of the ruling so that we can make the legal allegations in this regard and proceed with this arrest warrant,” says Valverde. It is foreseeable that this procedure will be relatively long, but it will culminate in this drastic decision against the sheikh and his children, who have avoided being questioned at all times in an investigation in which they are accused of several outstanding crimes.
The absence of the Al-Thani’s lawyer, Vanessa González Lledó, is also striking, as it was surprising that she did not attend the summons. In fact, the public ministry requested that the lawyer be required to state and prove why she has not appeared, so that, in her case, the corresponding disciplinary measures are adopted, according to the same sources.
The Prosecutor’s Office also reported in this appointment on information that had been requested by the judge on the whereabouts of al-Thani. Valverde himself said that Eurojust had confirmed the sheikh’s presence in the United Kingdom to treat pancreatitis. Now they are trying to confirm the exact place he has gone and if he is still there, which in the future could lead to his arrest, in the event that he continues on British soil.
It should be noted that the judge proceeded to make a recording in the room to comment on what happened on Monday morning in relation to the absence of the Al-Thani. Also, minutes before this appointment, the magistrate of the case, María de los Ángeles Ruiz, met with the judicial administrator of Malaga to analyze the situation of the entity.
The appointment was attended by three representatives of the APA (Antonio Aguilera, Javier Olmedo and the aforementioned Valverde), and the lawyers of other parties.
