That’s why the Chemnitz Niners are so successful

The Chemnitz Niners have numerous successes to celebrate. TAG24 highlights three pillars of success before the BBL kick-off

Chemnitz – Play-off quarter-finals, cup semi-finals, leap into European competition – the Chemnitzer Niners have set the bar high. Despite these successes, many top performers said goodbye. Only three basket hunters were loyal to the Chemnitz team. Before the start of the BBL on Sunday, 6 p.m., TAG24 will highlight three pillars of success at runner-up Bayern Munich.

Most recently, Malte Ziegenhagen (31) was captain and the face of the team. He ended his career. Jonas Richter (25) takes over.

“He’s absolutely exemplary with his work ethic and commitment, and he’s also our longest-serving player,” said Pastore.

Richter, Niners record player with over 200 professional appearances, explains: “I should set an example and also take command on the floor.”

Rodrigo Pastore (50) is entering his eighth (!) season as Niners head coach. The Argentine is a meticulous worker who, despite the successes, has kept his feet on the ground. Does the soaring continue?

Pastore warns: “Our greatest goal is to establish ourselves in the BBL. Europe Cup, championship, cup – no one should underestimate the triple burden and the travel strain.”

With Richter, Nelson Weidemann (23) and Mindaugas Susinskas (27), three shots remained. Eight newcomers had to be integrated. Arnas Velicka (22, Lithuania), Marko Filipovity (26, Hungary), Shonn Miller (29, USA) and Aher Uguak (24, Canada) were signed as top performers.

With Kevin Yebo (26, Bremerhaven), Kilian Binapfl (22, Giessen) and Dominic Lockhart (28, Bamberg), three Germans with BBL experience complete the squad.

For Matt Mooney (25), the Niners chapter ended before it really started. The American, planned as a playmaker, did not warm to the new team. He also did not convince athletically. The club announced the split on Friday.

It will be interesting to see how the Pastore team coped with the five-day Corona break. On Thursday, the Niners were back together on the training floor for the first time.
