Tennis stars visit the Asyl Miras Center in Astana

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime visited the Asyl Miras autism center, run by the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, in the Kazakh capital before the annual international autism conference. The World of the opportunitiesto be held in November.

The tennis players visited the center during the ATP 500 Tournament held earlier this month, to support the initiative and highlight the importance of these types of centers that allow timely treatment of children on the autism spectrum and their social integration.

Djokovic, who would go on to win the Astana Open, and the other tennis stars played with the children at the center, giving them gifts and receiving drawings about tennis in return. The players also met with the children’s parents, who told them about the importance of early diagnosis and the early signs of autism, such as a lack of speech or interest in playing with other children, the habit of lining up toys strictly or by colors.

The Bulat Utemuratov Foundation will hold its annual international conference on autism on Almaty at the end of November. Speakers, including international experts in the field of autism research, advanced method developers, and exercise specialists from the United States, Kazakhstan, and other countries, will address topics such as behavioral treatments for challenging behavior, effective intervention and inclusion.

An early support program for very young children up to 3 years old has been opened in all 10 Asyl Miras centers in Kazakhstan. Young children and their parents are taught to understand each other, to resolve crisis situations and to play with their peers, even if the child does not speak. Timely correctional assistance increases the child’s chances of leading an independent and fulfilling adult life.

The Foundation, whose Asyl Miras centers serve more than 14,000 children, plans to open two new centers in Kazakhstan this year. The centers implement the Program called “Autism. A world for all”. The objective of the program is the development and application of a progressive support system to improve the quality of life of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The recipients of the program are children with TEA of up to 15 years old, their families and the surrounding community.
