Twenty-one-year-old Šwiateková informed about it on Instagram. She cited dissatisfaction with the tennis season calendar as the reason. The group stage of the Billie Jean Cup in Glasgow will start just one day after the end of the Tournament of Champions in Texas.
“I thought about it for a long time and discussed it repeatedly with my team, but I simply will not be able to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup. I am very sorry,” wrote the three-time Grand Slam winner.

“I’m really sorry because I play for Poland whenever possible. It was an honor to play for him this season and I hoped to play for him at the end of the season as well,” said Šwiateková.
The tournament of champions is organized by the WTA, while the Billie Jean King Cup is organized by the ITF. “We are disappointed that the management of tennis is not able to agree on such basic things as the composition of the calendar,” said Šwiateková. “It turned out that they left us only one day to travel across the globe. Something like this threatens the health of the players and can lead to injuries. I will discuss the changes with representatives of the WTA and the ITF,” she added.
