Sport and its integrating function, protagonists in the solidarity calendar of Amibil

The integration and normalization of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities continues to be, in some cases and situations, a pending issue. To polish those obstacles, sport is one of the most used tools, both for physical activity itself and for its associated positive values. And with that idea, the traditional solidarity calendar of Amibil will be in 2023 a reminder of all the possibilities offered by different activities.

Thus, the Bilbilitana Association has promoted a almanac edition -which is already on sale in 41 establishments in Calatayud at a price of five euros- focused on the alternatives that a large part of its members use in their normal lives. For this they have had clubs and sports figures in the city, among them the Olympic badminton player Pablo Abián and the veteran athlete José Antonio Mayoral, who star each month.

They are joined byrepresentatives of petanque, jiu jitsu, swimming, hiking, golf, cycling, soccer and basketball. “We want to show that people with disabilities, if given the necessary support, can do more things and develop even more”, explains Lucrecia Jurado, manager of the entity. In their case, they have their own sports club: Inclusport, included within the Special Olympics umbrella and with which they manage their participation in tournaments and daily activities.

“It represents inclusion and normalization, since they live with other athletes and carry out a normalized and inclusive sports practice,” Jurado remarks. Likewise, regarding this year’s edition, he thanks all the godfathers and godmothers for their participation: “For Amibil their involvement is very important, because it allows us to make ourselves more visible”. The person in charge of the association also values ”the constant and intense collaboration” of the calendar’s sponsors since its launch.

In addition to the photos, there will be a introductory text, by José Ángel Urzay, and a poem by Mariano Ramos entitled ‘We play with the heart’. 1,500 copies will be printed.

In addition, recently, Amibil has appointed as honorary members from the entity to the economist Juan Royo, for his long-standing support for the entity, and to Cristina Balet, for the support of the Enrique Esteve Balet Foundation for the entity’s residency project.
