The 2nd Slow Pitch Tournament named after Andrea Bernabè “il Rude” and played on the municipal softball field “Piranhas” of Villa Verucchio ended with the assignment of the Defender Cup to Drink Team Rimini for the 2nd consecutive year.
Five formations that have honored Andrea’s memory with their participation: the Barbagianni of Rimini 86, the Drink Team Rimini, the Queens Baseball Rimini, the Tigers San Marino, the Team Umpires.
The meetings started early in the morning, when the dew of the night still wet the grass of the outfield.
Play ball between Rimini86 and Queens Baseball Rimini and to follow all the other matches that went to form the ranking that designated the first two teams that competed for the Defender Cup.
It should be noted how the spirit of the tournament was captured and even if the unofficial referees made some mistakes, everything was forgiven them between one joke and another. The sun then smiled all day.
The tournament formula included 6 innings or 50 minutes of play and we already started with 1 ball and 1 strike, to speed up the game.
Only in the final 7 innings and the last inning with free scoring.
From the very beginning it was understood which formations would play the final. Tigers and Drink Team above all others. In fact, the ranking of the first phase saw the Tigers in front of everyone with full points, followed by the Drink Team with a defeat, suffered by the Tigers themselves, while all the other formations stopped at 1 victory and 3 defeats.
As always, emotion prevailed during the award ceremony, which took place in the presence of his wife Stefania and children Claudio and Gianni, all agree, starting with Iglis Serafini who spoke on behalf of the referees, stating that “he had fun
Andrea too in seeing the joy with which he played in his memory “.
A special thanks to the volunteers of Valmarecchia Baseball & Softball who did their utmost in the various services of the day starting with the chefs Lella and Dimer, to continue with Anna, Elide, Fabrizio, Federica, Francesco, the 2 Luca, Raffaele, Renzo, Silvia.
Appointment next year with the 3rd Memorial Andrea Bernabe ‘”the Rude”, but before that, Sunday 30 October, again on the municipal field from Softball Piranhas, with the 2nd Halloween Tournament.
