His father came to 79 international matches and his brother, eight years older, has played for the Dutch national team twice so far. After Patrick and Justin, Shane becomes the newest Kluivert in the Orange shirt.

Not yet in the ‘big’ Orange of course, because Shane has only just turned 15. After an internship at the beginning of September, he was selected for the first time this week for the Netherlands under 16, which will play two exhibition games in Italy later this month.

Grandpa Kenneth gave example

Sport runs through the veins of the Kluivert family. In addition to Shane and 23-year-old Justin (Valencia), Patrick’s other sons also have football talent. Ruben (21) is part of the selection of FC Utrecht and was already in a pre-selection of Orange under 19. Quincy (25) played in the youth of Ajax and Vitesse in the past.

Patrick, who is one of the all-time top scorers in Orange with forty goals, and his sons have certainly inherited that talent from Kenneth, Patrick’s father and grandfather of Quincy, Justin, Ruben and Shane.

Kenneth Kluivert played in the sixties in the highest football competition in his native Suriname, for which he also completed three international matches.

While Quincy, Ruben and Justin are sons from Kluivert’s first marriage, Shane is the son of his current wife Rosanna Kluivert. Shane Kluivert lives with his parents in Barcelona and has been playing in the youth academy of FC Barcelona for over five years.

The youngest Kluivert is not only a star on the field, but also in other areas. He also has a passion for cooking, he was active on social media with cooking tips and he even has a few cookbooks to his name.

Shane Kluivert is accompanied in the selection of Orange under 16 by, among others, Isaiah Mustapha. His sire Riga raced in the Netherlands for Vitesse, Sparta and RBC.

PSV youth player Jaden de Guzman, the son of former Orange international Jonathan de Guzman, did not make the final selection.

Sons Van der Vaart and Van Persie knock on the door

One step higher are Damian van der Vaart (the son of Rafael van der Vaart) and Shaqueel van Persie (the son of Robin van Persie). They are included in the selection of the so-called ‘Futures’ of Under 17, players who are not yet eligible for the final selection, but who are in the picture.

Skye Vink (the son of Marciano Vink) is in the final selection of the Orange squad under 17.

In the ‘real’ Orange, Daley Blind (with Danny Blind) and Steven Berghuis (with Frank Berghuis) have a father who was previously international. In the past, for example, two generations of Cruijff (Johan and Jordi), Mulder (Jan and Youri) and De Jong (Jerry and Nigel) also made it to the Dutch national team.

Martin Koeman finished an international match in 1964, after which his sons Ronald and Erwin followed in his footsteps years later. And there are more brothers who both played in Orange, such as Willy and René van de Kerkhof, Frank and Ronald de Boer, Rob and Richard Witschge and most recently Siem and Luuk de Jong.
