This is Reis’ savior plan!

For the ascension command at Schalke, Thomas Reis (49) reaches into his own pocket.

The ex-Bochum coach (fired on September 12) started his rescue mission at the bottom of the league on Thursday. Contract until 2024, also for the 2nd Bundesliga.

From the transfer fee to VfL (200,000 euros plus 100,000 euros success bonus), Reis now pays 70,000 euros and a further 30,000 euros if he stays up (BILD reported).

Reis: “Schalke means a lot to me. It’s easy to be shown that you’re too greedy. I’m greedy for success – and for this club.”

More boss

Kramer’s successor immediately sends wide-chested signals into the dressing room.

The fact that sports director Rouven Schröder (47), his biggest supporter, gave up on Schalke on Wednesday doesn’t deter him: “I was informed early on. No reason to say no.”

He dismisses the fact that he is only the second choice behind Bruno Labbadia (56/Schalke canceled): “I don’t care if I’m plan C, D or E – I got the trust. The most important thing is to get the team to follow you – otherwise you don’t stand a chance!”

More hard work

The self-confessed native of the Ruhr area (“I fit into the pot!”) wants to turn things around using the basics such as winning the ball. And tries to grab Schalke’s series losers (six competitive bankruptcies) on their pride: “It’s up to everyone to prove that we are suitable for the Bundesliga.”

More competition

Until the World Cup break, Reis takes a very close look at where Schalke needs to upgrade (new number 1?) and who might have to go. And also how the cooperation with Mike Büskens (54) and Matthias Kreutzer (39) really works – he brought his VfL confidante Markus Gellhaus (52) with him.

Can Reis save Schalke? Sunday against Freiburg (5.30 p.m. / DAZN) is the first answer.
