The San Antonio Spurs released Joshua Primo, the 12th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, on Saturday over alleged allegations that the player exposed himself to women, ESPN reported.
Primo, 19, is a very promising player. In fact, the Spurs had optioned him for $4.3 million for the 2023-24 season, giving him a vote of confidence.
The player is already in the sights of several NBA teams, which would need cap space or a player exception to cover his $4.1 million salary to sign him.
Primo is aware of his fault and ready to undergo mental health treatment.
“I know all of you are surprised by today’s announcement. I have been seeking help to deal with the previous trauma I suffered and will now use this time to focus more fully on my mental health treatment. I hope to be able to talk about these issues in the future to help others who have similarly suffered. I appreciate the privacy at this time,” Primo said.
Primo averaged 5.9 points per game, 2.3 rebounds, 37.2% shooting from the floor and 25% shooting from 3-point range in 54 games with the Spurs in the NBA.
“We hope that in the long run this decision is in the best interests of both the organization and Joshua,” Spurs general manager RC Buford said.
