Rugby League: 24-year-old Australian player dies in Barcelona nightclub crash

He was 24 years old and his name was Liam Hampson. While vacationing in Spain with friends, he was found dead by Barcelona police after an accidental fall during a night out. It was the Queensland Rugby League which announced the terrible news on Thursday and the death of the Australian rugby league player.

The Redcliffe Dolphins hooker had opened an emergency door which led him to the roof of the Apolo, the nightclub where the facts took place. He accidentally fell about 10m into a courtyard, a police source told Reuters.

An autopsy was performed on Hampson on Thursday, a spokesman for Catalonia’s justice ministry said, declining to release its results for confidentiality reasons. The autopsy report will be made available to a local judge assigned to the case and Hampson’s family.

Calling him the best brother she could have asked for, Tiarna, the Australian player’s sister, paid tribute to him on Instagram: “We are devastated to hear that Liam had an accident and did not survive. We are so heartbroken.” One of his latest Instagram posts shows him at the Parc de Princes proudly sporting a Paris Saint-Germain jersey.
