Realmuto decided the first World Series clash

Receiver JT Realmuto tipped the scales in favor of the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of the 2022 World Series.

Realmuto punished on a full count (3-2) a high fastball by Venezuelan Luis García, who came on to relieve him in the tenth inning for the Houston Astros, to take the ball out through left field.

In addition to putting the Phillies ahead for the first time, Realmuto became the first catcher to homer in a World Series in extra innings since Carlton Fisk did it in Game 6 of the 1975 “fall classic.”

Prior to the hit by the Phillies catcher, Nick Castellanos made a play that prevented Philadelphia from losing and will be a key moment for the rest of the dispute.

Despite trailing by five runs early in the game and facing Justin Verlander, the favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award, the Phillies never gave up and once again this postseason they came from behind.

Kyle Tucker hit two home runs and drove in four runs and Martin Maldonado had one more for the Astros.

Offensive and pitching

For the cause of the “city of brotherly love” team, Realmuto produced three, Alec Bohm two, and Castellanos another.

José Alvarado, Zach Eflin, Ranger Suárez, Seranthony Domínguez and David Robertson allowed no runs in 5 2/3 innings of work.
