Puntarenas take the Chilean judo team

  • Seven representatives from our region make up the national team that will participate next week in the South American and the Pan American Open in Córdoba.

MThe Chilean National Team will have a strong presence of Magellanic judokas, which will participate from October 31 to November 6 in two important international federated events in the Argentine province of Córdoba: the South American for minor categories and the Pan American Open, which will award points for the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023.

The representatives of our region, all first in the national ranking of their respective categories, are finalizing the preparations to once again meet expectations, as has been happening for decades with this discipline thanks to a great training and projection work.

SOUTH AMERICAN

Five of the Puntarenas judokas will travel this Monday 31st to Santiago together with the technicians Sandra Moreno (Yama Harashi club) and Juan San Martín (Pudeto) to compete in the South American. They are the following:

Maira Madrid (Pudeto): sub-13, category -38F.

John Madrid (Pudeto): sub-15, category -53M.

Joaquin Miranda (Pudeto): sub-15, category -48M.

Ian Godoi (Yama Harashi): sub-15, category -58M.

Carlos Quinchen (Pudeto)sub-18, category -90M.

Note that Ian, Maira and Joaquín have just become national school champions in their respective categories and Ian was chosen as the best athlete in the discipline in the tournament.

OF ADULTS

In the capital they will join the rest of the team, which already has in its ranks two other Magellans who are based in Santiago and who will attend the Pan American Open, a tournament that will take place in parallel in Córdoba.

They are Jorge Pérez, recent silver medalist at the Odesur Games, and Sasha Muñoz, who will seek to score points for their participation in the Pan American Games that will take place next year in our country. Both will compete in the absolute category, -81M and -57F, respectively.

LACK OF RESOURCES

Scarlette Torres, president of the Yama Harashi club and at the same time director of the Chilean Judo Federation, highlighted the massive presence of Magellanics in the National Team, which will attend with twenty athletes the province located in the heart of the neighboring country.

“Seven travel in total, but there could well be more. There are about eight who are also first in the national ranking and will not go due to a lack of resources, including Mia Maldonado, Brian Soto, Ignacia Mayorga, Matilde Anguita, Francisco Chávez, Anahí Pérez, Rafaela Alvarez and Vicente Alvarez”, he highlighted. the leader

The five judokas who are leaving this Monday from Punta Arenas are part of the Promesas Chile program and the IND covered their Punta Arenas-Santiago round-trip tickets, but there were no more funds available for this purpose and, in the same way, municipal resources were intended for other children beforehand, he explained.

In this line, he graphed that his son (Ian Godoi) had to resort to raffles to help pay for the transfer from Santiago to Córdoba (round trip) that each judoka will have to pay for by their own means, as well as the inscriptions and the hotel designated by the organizers as a sanitary bubble ($310 for four nights, including accommodation and food), with no option to choose a cheaper alternative for the stay.

The issue of financing is of concern in the spheres of judo every time the participation of Maira Madrid, John Madrid, Joaquín Miranda, Ian Godoi, Carlos Quinchén and Mia Maldonado (sub-13, +52F) in the Children’s Pan American Games that will take place held in Panama City between November 23 and 26.

For this reason, Scarlette Torres made a call to businessmen, individuals and all those who can collaborate with these outstanding exponents of Magellanic judo, a discipline that is permanently occupying prominent seats in the national and international concert.
