The Portuguese soccer player Diogo Jota from Liverpool FC missed the World Cup in Qatar because of an injury. This was confirmed by Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp.

“We’re talking about months,” said Klopp on Tuesday when asked how long the 25-year-old Jota would be out. “I don’t want to give a number. It’s going to be a long time.”

Jota injured his calf in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday. “It’s very sad news for the boy – and of course for us and for Portugal,” said Klopp. An operation is not necessary, but a long rehabilitation phase.

According to the circumstances, he is doing well, the coach reported. “He’s surprisingly good so far,” said Klopp. “He’s a smart kid and knew it as soon as he was carried off the pitch. That’s when he knew it.”
