Riots at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya Surabaya match in week 11 of Liga 1 2022-2023, Saturday (1/10/2022) night claimed lives. More than 150 people have died in the dark incident marked by the firing of tear gas by the police.

The incident that killed the victim caused all matches of the 2022-2024 League 1 Competition to be postponed for a week. Including the Persib vs Persija match, Sunday (2/10/2022) at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium. The decision was taken by the operator of the PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) Competition after coordinating with the PSSI federation.

The security personnel for the Persib Bandung vs Persija Jakarta match, who were already on standby in the stadium area, partially withdrew. The Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Pol. Ibrahim Tompo, expressed his concern over the events in Kanjuruhan.

“First of all, I express my concern and all of us express our condolences for what happened in Malang yesterday. The world of football is deeply saddened, including us here, who are carrying out security for the readiness of the Persib and Persija matches,” said Ibrahim Tompo.

“In principle, we ourselves are ready to carry out security. We are now on the GBLA field to prepare for the Persib and Persija matches, but due to considerations from both PSSI and PT LIB, the committee and also the National Police Headquarters, the match has been postponed,” he said.

In an alarming situation, Ibrahim Tompo ordered Bobotoh, who had already come from out of town, to understand the situation. Also to the Persib supporters who have given their attention in exchanging e-tickets for bracelet tickets since this morning.

“Yes, we both convey our concerns to our supporting colleagues who are outside the city so that they can understand the current conditions. We both express our concern and grieve with this condition, so we hope that there will be an explanation from these supporters,” he explained.

The police will stand by around the GBLA Stadium to provide directions to the community until conditions are gradually conducive. “We remain on standby here to see the condition of the people and visitors who are present until the conditions are conducive and safe. Only members can leave this place,” he said.

“Even if people are aware of this condition, they should return to their respective areas so that there will be no mass crowds that can cause mass crowds without a clear purpose,” he said.
