Pegula, the 13th American woman in the Top 3 of the WTA ranking

New week and many changes in the WTA world ranking. In the Top 10, only the first two kept their positions compared to the previous list. The big climb was that of Jessica Pegula, who broke into the Top 3 for the first time, being the 13th player from the United States to reach the podium. And her new fourth is her young compatriot Coco Gauff.

At 28, Pegula is enjoying his best season on the professional circuit. Her title at the WTA in Guadalajara, on Mexican soil, allowed her to climb two very important positions to go from being No. 5 in the ranking to No. 3.

In this way, Pegula became the 13th American tennis player in the Top 3 of the WTA ranking in history, trad Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Billie-Jean King, Tracey Austin, Pam Shriver, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Sloane Stephens.

What is striking is that Pegula became the new No. 3 in the world with just two singles titles under her belt, since the first was that of Washington in 2019. Thus, she enjoys like never before with a dream promotion on the list.

The young Gauff, only 18 years old, improved three places and became No. 4 in the ranking. Another great merit of the American, she has already qualified for the WTA Finals in her country, both in singles and doubles, she being the first with that double in 23 years.

Among so many modifications, the great fall of the Estonian Anett Kontaveitt stood out, who dropped 14 positions to go from being No. 3 in the world to being in 17th place in the classification.

Brazilian Beatriz Maia Haddad remains the clear South American leader. In a great season, the best of her career, she rose three positions and was No. 15, equaling her highest position, which she had already achieved in August.
