OVERVIEW. Accurate Batshuayi again important for Fenerbahçe – AS Monaco and Clement severely down | Europa League and Conference League

FootballWhile Romelu Lukaku is still not ready to play just over a month before the start of the World Cup in Qatar, Michy Batshuayi is gold for Fenerbahce. Tonight in the Europa League, the Red Devil scored an important goal for the third game in a row. Arthur Theate (Rennes) and Johan Bakayoko (PSV) were also allowed to cheer, for Philippe Clement (AS Monaco) it was an evening to quickly forget.

He only made one more appearance at kick-off, but as a supersub, Michy Batshuayi has clearly found his niche in Turkey. Last week he helped in Fenerbahçe with the opening goal to the victory in the Europa League match against AEK Larnaca, last weekend he made the 5-4 in the Turkish league deep in added time against Karagümrük. And tonight the striker was again of gold value in Europe for his Turkish employer. Fenerbahçe appeared to be on their way to a 1-1 draw at Larnaca, but ‘Batsman’ took the victory ten minutes before time from the dot. Batshuayi and co are already certain of the qualification for the next round after four match days.

The fact that Batshuayi is in shape a good month before the start of the World Cup in Qatar is not unimportant for the Red Devils. Romelu Lukaku will in principle get fit after a muscle injury, but his return at Inter is taking longer than hoped.

Bakayoko and Theate win, Monaco from Clement head down

In group A of the Europa League, PSV won with clear 5-0 figures from FC Zurich. Yorbe Vertessen was not in the selection due to an injury, 19-year-old Johan Bakayoko did play. Our compatriot came in ten minutes after the break with a 4-0 score. With the win, PSV continues to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal, who won by the smallest difference at Bodø/Glimt. The Londoners count nine points, PSV seven. Bodø/Glimt has four points, but has played a game more than Arsenal and PSV. Zurich is still scoreless.

In group B, in addition to Michy Batshuayi, another Belgian was at the party. Arthur Theate won with Rennes visiting Dinamo Kiev, although the match was finished in Krakow (Poland). Theate played the entire match, Jérémy Doku was absent with an injury. Rennes, like Fenerbahçe, is sure of a place in the next round.

It was less pleasant for Philippe Clement in group H. The Belgian coach had to watch as his AS Monaco lost 4-0 on the field of the Turkish Trabzonspor. At Monaco our compatriot Eliot Matazo remained glued to the bench, Krépin Diatta (ex-Club) was changed on the hour. On the Turkish side, Stefano Denswil (also ex-Club) played the entire match, substitute Trezeguet (ex-Anderlecht) recorded the 4-0 final score. Clement and co still have to work hard in the last two matches, because Monaco is currently third with six points. Trabzonspor also has six points but a better goal difference in the head-to-head results, Ferencvaros leads with nine points.
