The 35-year-old is playing his first singles tournament in Tel Aviv since the Wimbledon final on July 10, which he won in four sets against Nick Kyrgios. In Israel, Djokovic is now reaching for Rome and Wimbledon on Sunday after his 89th title and the third of the season.
Last week Djokovic was already at the start of the Laver Cup and suffered a defeat against Team World when Roger Federer said goodbye to Team Europe.
Musetti and Sinner miss the final
At the ATP event in Sofia, however, it was a bad day for Italy’s tennis stars. First, after a tough fight, Lorenzo Musetti had to admit defeat to Swiss Marc-Andrea Hüsler 6:7 (5:7), 5:7.
In the second semi-final, Jannik Sinner had to break off the third set against the Dane Holger Rune at a score of 7: 5, 4: 6, 2: 5.
Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov and Yoshihito Nishioka will face off in the Seoul final.
The Canadian prevailed 7:5, 6:4 against Jenson Brooksby from the USA. Japan’s Nishioka beat Aleksandar Kovacevic (USA) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
