Guuk Gipuzkoa lost 87-66 against Palencia after a very bad second half to end the preseason with four wins and one loss

If Guuk Gipuzkoa’s pre-season has had a negative aspect, it is not because of tonight’s defeat against Palencia in Castilian lands by 87-66, but because Lolo Encinas’ team is going to perform next Friday in Ourense with the doubts by Adam Sollazzo and Rauno Nurger, practically unpublished this September. The forward has only played the first friendly against Basket Navarra and the Estonian has not yet made his debut.

This Friday’s defeat, the only one in the preparation, has shown clear points to improve in Lolo Encinas’ team, which is also to be thanked for being able to focus on them in the next training sessions and start the LEB Oro in the best possible conditions. The first, how much it has cost Guuk Gipuzkoa to create good shooting situations against the defense of a physical team and called to be in the noble zone of the table. Zubizarreta still needs time to establish himself as the absolute leader in the point guard position and Oroz to adapt to his new position. Except for much of the first half, the team has not been at all comfortable on the court and has suffered from the absence of references such as Sollazzo, who must discharge the responsibilities of organizing the game to the two urolatarras.

The other aspect to improve is the forcefulness of the interiors. Beraza has taken a step forward taking advantage of his minutes –he has averaged 6.2 points this preseason–, and will give a couple more by being more aggressive both in defense and attack. Just like Jaktas, who in the third quarter was the great defender with several errors in the change and in the lack of aggressiveness.

Anyway, there are also positive conclusions, and the main one is that Guuk Gipuzkoa has a player. Jaworski was once again the top scorer with 16 points, and this time against a better defense that dedicated more attention to trying to stop him. Not only does the American live from triples and he has known how to work the baskets by means of the boat to enter on a tray or stop in the middle distance. In this preseason he has averaged 21.6 points (games of 33, 17, 21, 21 and 16 points) and is going to be the offensive beacon this season.

With the defeat, the San Sebastian players have concluded the preseason with four victories (Basket Navarra 82-86, Zornotza 74-56, Juaristi Iraurgi 67-73 and Oviedo 79-64) and one lost match.

The scorers have been: Delas (12), Jaworski (16), Oroz (3), Motos (7), Beraza (4), Jakstas (12), Zubizarreta (8), Martínez (2), Carene (2), Of the Hera (0).
