NFL: Garett Bolles and Ronald Darby suffered season-ending injuries

A painful Thursday night loss to the Indianapolis Colts has become even more costly for the Denver Broncos. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett said tackle Garett Bolles (leg/ankle) and cornerback Ronald Darby (knee) will miss the rest of the season.

So that means that in the space of four days – Sunday’s loss to the Raiders and Thursday’s loss to the Colts – the Broncos have seen running back Javonte Williams, in addition to Bolles and Darby suffer season-ending injuries.

Bolles suffered a broken right leg with just over three minutes remaining in the 4th quarter in the 12-9 overtime loss to the Colts. The Boncos were not optimistic of the short-term consequences when assessed by the medical team at the stadium.

He underwent further tests on Friday morning and the need for surgery to repair the fracture was confirmed. Bolles has missed just four games in his career since playing his first game as a rookie in 2016, including three games last season.

Darby, who underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery in 2018 while playing with the Philadelphia Eagles, suffered the injury just before halftime. With the injury of receiver Tim Patrick in training camp, the Broncos suffered significant losses in several positions.

Randy Gregory also injured his knee against the Raiders and will miss several weeks.

“Injuries are something that I cannot control as a coach. It’s long term… I can only go to the drawing board and try to find solutions to put players in good positions. We need to help them be successful,” Hackett explained.
