NFL: Bears win with panache, 33-14, against Patriots in Foxborough

The return to the lineup of quarterback Mac Jones did not have the desired effect for the New England Patriots.

Both Jones and teammate Bailey Zappe struggled against the Chicago Bears defense as the Bears won 33-14 Monday night at Foxborough.

If the Pats (3-4) had all the trouble in the world generating attack, the Bears (3-4) offered their most complete performance of the season in all phases of the game.

Chicago thus achieved a first victory in an opposing stadium in 2022, after starting the calendar by losing their first three clashes played on the road.

While Jones was taken out of the game after completing three assists, another sophomore quarterback, Justin Fields, was having some encouraging moments.

Jones, the 15th overall pick in the 2021 draft, missed three games with a sprained ankle.

The young general of the Bears offered a reassuring performance, particularly in the running game, when he garnered 83 yards by running, in addition to registering a touchdown.

Fields also threw for a touchdown pass and for 179 yards.

Zappe found takers on five of his six passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in the first half. But on the second, he completed nine of 16 throw-ins for 76 yards, including two that were intercepted.

Rhamondre Stevenson caught eight passes for 59 yards and rushed 11 times for 39 yards for the Patriots (3-4).

David Montgomery and Hebert each rushed for 62 yards for the Bears, who had lost three straight games before facing the Patriots.

The Bears had also lost five straight to the Patriots and eight of nine since beating them 46-10 in the 1986 Super Bowl.
