The experienced coach won six titles in Creole basketball after conquering Trotamundos de Carabobo in five games in the first edition of the Professional Super League.
Caracas. Coach Néstor Salazar ratified once again his ability to guide quintets to the title in Venezuelan basketball.
Salazar showed his skills as a good strategist during the first season of the Professional Basketball Super League (SPB), which culminated on Thursday, October 27 with the crowning of Trotamundos de Carabobo, after defeating Cocodrilos de Caracas in five games in the final series.
The scepter allowed “Mamá Osa” –as the 66-year-old from Sucre is known– to win six trophies as coach in rented basketball and match his mentor Pedro “Camagüey” Espinoza, who also won six titles.
I am super pleased. It is the sixth title and it is easy to say, but I am very grateful to the players”, said the coach after winning the decisive victory 87-81 at the United Nations Park in the capital.
Salazar won four championships with the Crocodiles: 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2015-2016. In addition to winning the first edition of the SPB, “Mamá Osa” had already celebrated with Trotamundos in the 2019 LPB Cup.
And it is that the general numbers of the charismatic strategist are remarkable and very difficult to match. He has played 13 finals, 30 seasons, 1,327 games and 797 wins, according to data from statistician Pedro Marrero.
In an interview with the former LPB, Salazar confessed that he did not think about the brands:
When one starts these jobs one does not set goals or records. In a match, Pedro Marrero told me that he had reached 300 wins and was the youngest to do so. That’s when I realized he could take over the long-term wins lead in the league.”
That leadership is already a reality, as well as his sixth crown and the eleventh of the Blue Expreso in national basketball.
