millionaires missed out on the possibility of qualifying against DIM on a pending date and clearing doubts before the last date of Liga Betplay II-2022.
The team conceded eight games without winning, seven of them in the league (three defeats in a row) and further complicated their chances of advancing to the phase. On the last date they will visit Alianza Petrolera and coach Alberto Gamero plays it all with that match. He asked the albiazul fan for patience.
Gamero analyzed the 1-2 defeat against DIM saying that “when a team plays with two nines like Medellin does, the best strategy is for the central defenders to score well and leave no chances. They moved well, they are good players, and we sinned in the goal, but in the 1-1 we were ambitious and wanted to look for the second, but they caught us badly”.
And he added: “Today I think we were not inferior to a good rival like Medellín, it was hand in hand and they were more forceful and that is clear, but not everything is bad. We have gone eight dates without winning and we still have possibilities, that means that we had done something good. We have a game ahead of us to qualify, we have a final ahead of us. The group knows it and I, as a figurehead, am very strong because here in Colombia I haven’t thought I was the best coach, but I’m not the worst either.” .
While on the outskirts of El Campín the fans expressed their annoyance with songs, inside the stadium the Millonarios coach asked them for patience. “What to say to the fans, that we have one game left, that they wait for us, is the only thing I can say. That they wait for us in the game that remains for us to qualify (…) I have said that we have one game left with the possibility of qualify. Today I’m not going to say we’re not going to play that game because we don’t have a chance, if we do. Give us that chance. Gamero acknowledged having a “good” team and was confident that they will get the result they need to qualify in Barrancabermeja. “This group is good and deserves good things, on Sunday they need a good result to qualify and Wednesday is the final. We depend on us nothing more, on Sunday God willing everything turns around and the balls enter us, making fewer mistakes. Let’s go to look for that classification”.
Finally, he mentioned that Carlos Gómez and Daniel Ruiz are not having their best moment but it is due to the anxiety of wanting to help the group. “I see that they try and want to, but sometimes things don’t work out for them, they are young players and they cannot diminish the joy of playing.
