The Syntainics MBC basketball team celebrated their first win of the Bundesliga season. The Weißenfels team won their game against the Würzburg Baskets on Saturday after double overtime with 117:113 (102:102, 88:88, 56:44). The outstanding Lamont Jones (30 points) kept his nerve four seconds before the end of this thriller and converted both free throws to the final score. In addition to Jones, Kris Clyburn, Kostja Mushidi (16 each), Martin Breunig (14), Tremmel Darden (12) and Mario Ihring (11) played a major role in the success. Cameron Hunt (32), CJ Bryce (22) and Stanley Whittaker (21) scored the most points for Würzburg.

The team from Weißenfels clearly set the tone in the first half, and after 18 minutes they were leading 52:36, also thanks to the outstanding three-point quota (eight goals in 13 attempts). But this clear lead was recklessly gambled away by the guests. In the third quarter, the Central Germans only managed nine points. Würzburg went into the last quarter with a slight lead (63:61) and was up 88:85 shortly before the end. Clyburn’s three-pointer forced overtime. In the first part, the Mainfranken thought they were already on the road to victory before Jones also equalized with a three-pointer three seconds before the end. In the second five minutes of overtime, the guests had better nerves and forced success.
